As an Altruist you are super-mom! You are such an amazing mom and wife, your life revolves around all those in your family. They mean the world to you and it shows!

Being a mom and wife is so rewarding in many ways. Your kids are an extension of you and it is a big responsibility to get these little humans ready for the world. It should never be taken lightly but as mom's it is easy to get caught up and forget about yourself. Our families do come first but as the one person that holds everything together, you should be healthy, happy and full of life so they feed off that energy. We forget our roles go beyond hugs, food, and driving them where they need to go.

Mom’s cook (never for themselves always for others), clean, work, and most importantly create a loving environment for their family. This is a lot and can be very overwhelming and tiring. When you do try and do self-care, you feel guilty and very unrelaxed when it is suppose to do the opposite. Guilt and distraction is common when trying to do something for yourself.

You want to take care of yourself but so afraid that 1 hour a day will destroy these little minds! Far from the truth but hard to let go of the need to be needed. And yes that is what it is. It feels really damn good to have someone need you like that. To love you so much they don't want to be away from you. As women it is primal to feel this way and need it. But during all that we get lost. It has been about others for so long you don't know how to treat yourself now. You try and do what you use to feel good and look good but it isn't working!

You think you can eat how you did or diet how you did but nope, things just don't change. You end up getting frustrated and just go back to eating what you feed your family (usually overeating from waiting) or just snacking when you can get it in. The battle you have going on in your mind between what your family needs and what you need creates a stress response. This stress response automatically turns on your fight, flight, freeze. Which means you turn off your rest and digest. This leads to your body shutting off your Fat-Burning and also causes major gut issues. All this will directly affect emotions as well. So you end up chasing your tail. A Merry-go-round of unhealthy habits. Remember health is far beyond what you eat and how much you move

You don't have much time for exercise and when you do you are so tired you just skip it so you can sit and either snack on food you crave or just to chill for a bit. Stress creates low energy and lack of motivation besides all that I mentioned previously. Hard to do something for your body when you feel that way. If you do workout it is at home or a yoga class. Easier and doesn't require as much effort and time. I get it! You have to get it in when you can but unfortunately you are not doing it as much as you want to!

You more than likely hold unwanted fat around your waist, hips and arms.  Your tummy may be bloated and extended a bit, bad posture due to having babies. This excess can be from high cortisol levels or insulin resistance or both and the posture is due to not nurturing your body how you should. You are also probably not getting great quality sleep.  It is hard to get to sleep when your stress levels are high or there are a bunch of kids in your bed. Sleep is crucial to healthy body composition.  When you lack sleep you decrease the hormone leptin (appetite suppressing hormone produced from fat cells) and increases ghrelin (hormone released by the stomach) When these are off due to sleep, your body will think you want and need more food than you do.  It will also causes cravings.

Besides those hormones causing hunger, you will also create major sugar cravings due to lack of pleasure and satisfaction in your own body.  Nurturing others feels great but never do it so much that you don't matter anymore. It is a Fat-Burning killer! The Best kind of love comes from a place of happiness. Your children seeing you care for yourself is also a life lesson. One we need to help our children believe and do as they get older. Respecting our bodies is something we take for granted and we really shouldn't. Our children need to know that is just as important as a degree or a career.

In order to create a body that Burns fat as an Altruist, start following these steps and watch your body change:

  1. Start a food journal.  Write down every meal, when you ate, how you felt before and after.  Also ask yourself is what you ate what you really wanted. This is a great way to start creating intuitive eating and body wisdom.

  2. To reduce inflammation start increasing your Omega 3 fats dramatically!  Also eat foods high in antioxidants and I highly recommend a B-complex plus some adaptogens.

  3. Working out will come much easier once you see your value and start making time for you!  Workout with your family. Stay active doing outdoor activities. Exercise is not limited to a gym.

  4. I suggest doing your workouts first thing in the morning or at night.  This way you can get it in before others start asking you for things or when the day is ended and you are more likely to be free.  Starting your day with exercise and or stretching will create amazing feelings of accomplishment and confidence.

  5. Take time throughout the day to slow down.  Ask yourself how you are feeling. What do you need?  Checking in with yourself will also help with creating that body wisdom you need.

  6. Avoid eating after 7pm.  Once you start dealing with your emotions and thoughts this gets easier.  Eating too close to when you go to sleep can be very disruptive to the digestive system and ruins sleeping patterns.

  7. Turn off all electronics about 1 hour before bed.  Take time to do some reading and journaling. What are you grateful for from your day?  What are your intentions for the next day? What affirmations will help you with a positive outlook? What do you want your kids to see you doing for yourself?

This is a lot to take in, I know.  All things you may not have thought of or have and just not doing it.  As you can see I didn't lay out what foods to eat and cut out. I didn't give a meal plan.  Why?  Because in all honesty it doesn't matter what you eat if you aren’t working on the above 7 steps.

Besides, we are all unique.  What I tell my clients to eat and cut out is based on their bodies!  Everyone is different and has different needs. So telling you on here what you should and shouldn't have would be a lie, and I am not going to do that to you.
